MusicFor the vocal ensembles, Concert Chorus and Chamber Choir, the main focus is placed on vocal development, music comprehension, and the study of varied choral repertoire. Students perform at concerts, community events, and school liturgies. Students will sing with proper technique, diction, expression, and will have an artistic understanding of the music performed.
Music Appreciation is offered to all incoming freshmen and the course studies the major musical time periods, music theory, and music production. Students will engage in varied activities including listening and analyzing music, producing and composing music, studying the elements of music, comparing musical genres and time periods, and more.
Students will explore the acoustics of sound through instrument-making and will develop an awareness and appreciation of music through project-based learning.
Students can also register for Introduction to Keyboard, in this course students will learn the fundamentals of keyboard. The course will increase musical understanding beyond just reading notes by teaching students a vocabulary of chords and keys, accompaniment patterns, and improvisational techniques. Students will play melodies in several positions and have the opportunity to participate in ensemble playing. Students will develop good practice habits and learn techniques to increase the muscular agility and flexibility of their hands.
All of the ensembles and courses of study in the FHA Music Department aim for students to foster a love of music and gain real world performance experience. DramaAt Fontbonne Hall, we also facilitate an after school Drama program that is specially designed for the most passionate and motivated young artists, and this includes studies in acting, voice, singing and dance. All Fontbonne students are invited and encouraged to audition for the Spring Musical. |
